Tyra Buss began her career as a member of the school team in high school. She received various awards over her four years at her high school, including Gatorade Player of the Year, Ms. Basketball Honor, National High School Coaches Association Girls Basketball Player of the Year, and others.

She went on to Indiana University Bloomington for college, where she was a member of the women’s basketball team. During her four years of college basketball, she broke a number of records while also setting a number of new ones.

From 2014 until 2018, she also became the all-time leading scorer with over 2364 points. In her sophomore year, she was named first-team all-Big Ten, and in her senior year, she was named CoSIDA academic all-district.

She guided the club to the WNIT championship in 2018 and was voted the postseason WNIT’s most valuable player for her efforts.

In the same year, Tyra was named to an exclusive list of accolades. She went on to work as a color analyst for the Big Ten Network when she graduated.

After completing her academic studies, she went on to work as an assistant coach at the University of Evansville, where she coached for one season and assisted the team in winning three games.

Tyra joined the University of Milwaukee as an assistant coach in June 2021, and she is presently working under coach Kyle Rechlicz, who is a big fan of her and wants to help her become one of the most successful young basketball coaches in the country.

She was also recently featured on the BTN network, hosting a women’s sports report on the Big Women’s basketball tournament, which took place in Indianapolis in 2020.

In 2017-18, she was named to the Wade Watch List and the Naismith Citizens Preseason Trophy Watch List. Tyra also competed in tennis and track and field, winning player of the year four times in Southern Illinois.

During high school, she ran the 800m, 200m low hurdles, cross country, and the 400m relay.
