Chioji earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
She joined WESH in 1988 as an evening reporter after graduation and remained there for two decades, covering various subjects.
She covered presidential visits, the Columbia space shuttle catastrophe, the Atlanta Olympics following the bombing, the Pope’s visit to Cuba, and many other topics.
Also, as a team, she earned an Emmy award for the News special report titled “A Heroin Emergency” while working at WESH.
Wendy then received the DuPont Columbia Prize for her coverage of the Shuttle Columbia catastrophe.
She quit WESH in 2008 to focus on her physical training and athletics.
