Officials, however, believed Seberg was not the main reason of her death.

A toxicology test found that she had a coma-inducing amount of alcohol in her system,

meaning that she would never have been able to get into and drive her own car before dying in it.

Furthermore, no alcohol was found in the vehicle.

As a result, Paris authorities initially suspected that her body had been transported after she died, but they were unable to identify a suspect.

As a result, the case was closed.

The FBI admitted in documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act that it had relentlessly defamed Seberg for years.
