In December 2020, the couple brought their child, branded “#babyC,” into the maternity recovery area of a Bay Area hospital.

Jessica, Layshia’s wife, had recently undergone a cesarean section following a 29-hour labor and bearing the baby for more than 41 weeks.

While Jessica was recuperating, Layshia had some alone time with her first child.

The newborn, known as infant C and referred to using they/them pronouns, apparently reacted with gurgles and squirms after being calmed by Layshia.

The overjoyed parents arrived at the hospital with no firm plans for their child’s name, planning to make the decision after the baby was delivered.

However, it took another two days for them to settle on a name.

They have chosen to keep the name private and not expose it to the public.

According to Layshia, the birth of Baby C had a huge impact on her, confirming their commitment to working for a more fair society.

She has stated that they intend to raise the child with a gender-inclusive viewpoint.
