One of his admirers’ letters moved him to tears;

it read, “My first Tigers game, grandpa took me.” I had the pleasure of meeting you after the game because you were playing.”

“I grabbed a photo with my grandpa, and he had it on the mantelpiece of me with Freddie,” the note said.

Fast forward many years to the Premiership final, and my grandfather was terribly ill the weekend of the final.

Being at Twickenham was a wonderful experience, and all of your hard work as a club came to a head that day, and I couldn’t have been more proud.”

His grandfather died the night following the final, according to the message.

Before anything, his grandfather had little memory and could barely communicate.

His last memories, though, were of being at Freddie’s game.

Bruns took a break, his eyes welling up with tears, and stated that he might not be able to complete reading all of this.

The player became emotional during the interview; he couldn’t stop talking about the note one of his fans sent him.
