Ken Bruce, the broadcaster of BBC Radio 2’s regular mid-morning show, announced his departure from the station after 31 years.

Bruce announced his departure from BBC Radio 2 on January 17, 2023, to pursue other opportunities, including leading a new mid-morning program for Greatest Hits Radio.

According to the Mirror, Ken’s decision was confirmed in a morning tweet by BBC Radio 2.

“After 31 years of presenting the 9:30am-midday weekday show, Ken has decided to leave,” the tweet said.

In August 2007, when the BBC presenter was on vacation, he was briefly replaced by Davina McCall, triggering over 150 complaints from listeners.

Ken succeeded Freda Roberts, former mayor of Aylesbury and long-time patron and co-founder of Stoke Mandeville Hospital Radio, as patron in September 2018.

Ken Bruce’s Earnings and Career

According to the most recent BBC annual report, the Radio Hall of Famer earned between £385,000 and £389,999 in 2021-22.

Bruce joined the BBC in 1977 and became a regular Radio 2 presenter in 1984, making him one of the station’s longest-serving hosts.

He won an episode of Celebrity Mastermind with his expertise being P.G. Wodehouse’s Jeeves books, in addition to his journalistic career.

Ken Bruce Is He Retiring?

After more than three decades of service, Ken Bruce announced his retirement on January 17, 2023.

The BBC host left his most-listened-to British radio show to join rival station Greatest Hits Radio.

According to a statement published by Greatest Hits Radio, Ken indicated that Popmaster would take over the 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekday slot from Mark Goodier commencing April 3, 2023.

The BBC thinks the Radio 2 presenter, known for its daily Popmaster quiz, has more than 8.5 million weekly listeners, according to industry organization Rajar.

The BBC has yet to identify who will take his place following his resignation. Radio 2 does, however, frequently promote presenters from its current roster.

Trevor Nelson, Rylan Clark, Claudia Winkleman, Dermot O’Leary, and Jo Whiley are among those who may be considered for Bruce’s role.
