Aside from his business, Gianfranco owns and operates a group of wineries totaling 80 hectares of grapes in Italy’s Monferrato and Langhe regions.

According to Hardware Upgrade figures, his company produced 700,000 bottles each year on average.

During his latter years, the Turin, Italy-born scientific genius focused on developing sustainable wine-growing methods.

He helped Acer expand its notebook PC business, leading the company to market leadership in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

According to the American market research firm Gartner, Acer shipped over 45.26 million PCs that year, representing a 13.8 percent rise over the previous year and accounting for around 12.9 percent of the global market.

Gianfranco left Acer in 2011 after a disagreement with the company’s board about the company’s future direction and afterward joined Lenovo.
