Who is Jessica Berman?

Jessica Berman has remained an NHL executive and a member of the National Lacrosse League’s board of directors (NLL). She has now been nominated for the job of National Women’s Soccer League Commissioner.

Jessica Berman succeeded Lisa Baird, who resigned from her job in October 2021 following a scandal involving sexual charges against one of the league’s coaches. Berman’s appointment was made public on March 9, 2022. (Wednesday). She will return to the job on April 20, 2022, for a four-year term.

Jessica Berman worked at NLL as a Deputy Commissioner and Executive Vice President of Business Affairs, where she was responsible for overseeing the company’s strategic expansion goals and legal matters.

Berman has held positions in foreign human resources, team services, community engagement, League governance, and Lacrosse Operations, among other areas of responsibility.

She was hired as the men’s professional sports league’s Deputy Commissioner in 2019, making her the first woman to hold the post.

Berman has previously held the post of Vice President of the NHL Foundation. Despite this, she was also working at the National Hockey League’s level of community development, culture, and growth, where she was in charge of setting social goals, initiatives, policies, and programs for the League, NHL clubs, the hockey community in general, and the NHL’s corporate partners.

She sought to enhance inclusivity, accessibility, and the overall creation of a community-friendly environment. Her goal was to lower the obstacles to playing hockey by emphasizing the skills and the qualities that can be taught via sports.

Ms. Berman has also served as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for the National Hockey League.

Jessica worked as an Associate in the Labor & Employment Department at Proskauer Rose LLP before deciding to pursue a career in the NHL.

She was in charge of collective bargaining, mediations, lawsuits, and arbitrations at the corporation.

During her time at Proskauer Rose, Jessica was also involved in a variety of other projects, including domestic abuse, sexual assaults, and military services.

Jessica has remained a member of the lecturers and associated body, where she has lectured on topics such as the posts league, operations and businesses, social effect, diversity & inclusion, labor law, immigration law in sports, and other cutting-edge topics in the sports industry.

She remained a strong candidate for the University of Michigan, where she served on the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology’s alumni board.

Jessica is an avid runner who has participated in numerous marathons and Tough Mudders outside of her NHL and NLL careers.
