Michael Dickson is a punter for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League. While in Texas, he also played college football.
Michael Dickson’s Childhood
Michael Dickson was born on January 4, 1996, in Sydney, and grew up there. He began playing soccer as a child and switched to Australian Rules football when he was nine years old.
He was awarded the Golden Boot Award for having the best kicking in his first year of playing for America Rule Football. He kept up his performance despite being one of the best players in Australian football.
He represented the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and competed in the Sydney AFL. When he was younger, he was placed in the Sydney Swans talent academy.
He played for the University of New South Wales for the rest of his career. He tried out for the Australian Football League team but was passed over. Dickson rose to prominence after being selected to play for Swan in the 2014 NEAFL Grand Final.
The team, however, was defeated by a two-point margin. Dickson moved to Melbourne in 2015, at the age of 19, to take part in a trial with Prokick Australia, a coaching program that assists young kickers and punters in pursuing a professional career in American football.
He was drafted as a punter by the University of Texas while he was with Prokick Australia.

Dickson made 77 punts and rushed for around 3,179 net yards with an average of 41.3 yards per carry while playing for the Longhorns in 2015.
In 2016, he had 65 punts returned for touchdowns while gaining 3,079 net yards on an average of 47.4 yards per carry.
Dickson received the Ray Guy Award in 2017. He was named MVP of the 2017 Texas Bowl. During his junior season, he punted 84 times and rushed for 3,984 net yards on an average of 47.4 yards per carry.
Dickson announced in late December 2017 that he would forego his senior year at Texas and enter the NFL Draft in 2018.
Michael Dickson’s Professional Development
Dickson was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, while ranking 149th overall.
After veteran Jon Ryan was released for an extended period of time, he was honored with the regular punting job. Dickson made his Seahawks debut in a game against the Denver Broncos.
During the game, he had 6 punts with a net yardage of 354. It was his most lopsided defeat, with an overall score of 27-24.
Dickson was also named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against the Detroit Lions in Week 8.
