Mike Schultz- Professional Career

Schultz is a gold medalist who had a winning streak in the SB-LL1 snowboard-cross event, followed by a silver medal in the banked slalom, capping up a successful two-season run. Mike is frequently referred to as “Monster Mike.”

He is one of the most serious American riders and a consistent Paralympic contender, having won a gold medal in the 2017 World Championships in Big White, Canada. Mike competed in the banked slalom against the Netherlands’ most formidable personality, flying Dutchman Chris Vos, but had to finish the race without any gold. He also missed out on the gold in the snowboard-cross podium once, but these games served as a warm-up for future special events.

He also raced in the World Cup 2017-18, winning the crystal globe overall, and was able to qualify for Pyeongchang 2018. He returned to sports after a serious accident and having his leg replaced with prosthetic equipment, training with the prosthetic knee, and won a silver medal in motocross adapted at the X Games.

Before agreeing on the prosthetic equipment in his leg, he had to go through many fractures and knee surgeries. Schultz realized the need to build prostheses for diverse athletes and decided to start his own company, BioDapt, Inc., in July 2010.

He aspires to provide the greatest instrumental and prosthetic support for athletes (who believe in inactivity) as well as injured soldiers.

Mike is being trained and mentored by Alex Tuttle, his only coach, and Mike Jennings. He used to train for two hours every day, which is an average amount of time for psychologically and physically preparing for athletic difficulties.

Following the seasons of 2018 and 2022, Mike has competed in the Paralympics a total of two times. At the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, he won gold and silver medals in snowboardcross and banked slalom, respectively.

Despite this, he has three world championship silver medals in banked slalom, dual banked slalom, and snowboardcross for the seasons 2017 and 2021.
