Evan Hawthorne, a former Chester County sheriff’s deputy. Evan Hawthorn was arrested in 2019 after being discovered driving intoxicated in his police car and causing an accident. Sheriff Max Dorsey fired Hawthorne after his arrest. According to sources, the York County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the homicide investigation from the Rock Hill Police Department.
On a murder charge, Hawthorne is being held at the York County Detention Center.
According to authorities, the homicide case is still being investigated.
Evan Hawthorne: Who Is He?
Evan Robert Hawthorne was arrested in July 2021 for the death of Larry Vaughan, a 30-year veteran of the Rock Hill Police Department.
Evan left the agency in 2018 and will be back in May 2019.
According to WCNC Charlotte, Hawthorne was a deputy with the Chester County Sheriff’s Office until being discharged in 2019 for driving a patrol car while intoxicated.
Shortly after, in July of the same year, Hawthorne was fired by Sheriff Max Dorsey following a DUI incident in which Hawthorne was allegedly driving his police car while intoxicated while off-duty.
Hawthorne, a veteran law enforcement officer, joined the Chester County Sheriff’s Office in August 2015, reporting to then-Sheriff Alex Underwood.
Hawthorne’s father, a local real estate agent, claims the family is refusing to comment on the incident.
After being arrested at the York County Detention Center, the suspect appeared before a magistrate court on Saturday.
Deputies were summoned to The Anderson complex on East Main Street on Friday, July 23, when a person was discovered deceased in an apartment, according to a York County Sheriff’s Office notification.
An ex-Chester County deputy has been arrested in connection with the homicide of a retired Rock Hill Police lieutenant, according to York County Sheriff’s Office detectives.
Authorities arrested 27-year-old Chester resident Robert Hawthorne in connection with Vaughan’s murder.
According to police, Hawthorne was discovered at the intersection of Ebenezer and Hollis Lakes roads in Rock Hill.
Deputies were called to the Anderson Apartments on East Main Street in Rock Hill at about 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
When deputies arrived, they located deceased retired Rock Hill Police Lieutenant Larry Vaughan in an apartment.

Authorities have accused 27-year-old Evan Robert Hawthorne of Larry Vaughan’s murder, and he remains in custody as of Monday night.
Hawthorne appeared in front of a magistrate court for his bond hearing.
Hawthorne previously worked for the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.
Because of Lieutenant Larry Vaughan’s ties to the Rock Hill Police Department, the Rock Hill Police Department has requested that the York County Sheriff’s Office conduct an investigation.
The community is still puzzled as to why this occurrence occurred.
Vaughan will retire in September 2020 after 30 years of service, including 20 years with the Rock Hill SWAT unit.
