Carrie Fisher was born in Beverly Hills, California, the United States, on October 21, 1956. 

Her nationality is American, and she is of mixed heritage (Ashkenazi Jewish, English, Scottish, German, and French).

In Beverly Hills, California, she was born to Russian immigrant father Eddie Fisher and Scottish-Irish-English mother Debbie Reynolds.

While her father was a devout Jew and a vocalist by trade, her mother was a Protestant who played an on-screen persona. 

She has a younger brother and two relatives.

Her mother and stepfather Harry Karl reared her after her parents divorced when she was two.

She was briefly engaged to Dan Aykroyd in 1980 before breaking up with him to marry Paul Simon in 1983. 

They were married for precisely eleven months before splitting up.

She dated Simon again after her divorce before falling in love with Creative Artists Agency principal and casting agent Bryan Lourd.

In 1975, Fisher made her first large widescreen appearance in the Columbia spoof, ‘Cleanser.’ 

She shared the screen with Warren Beatty, Julie Christie, and Goldie Hawn.

After two years, she achieved her breakthrough with the science-fiction story ‘Star Wars,’ a George Lucas picture. 

She portrayed Princess Leia Organa in the film.
